1. Background
Singapore has made good progress in becoming an age-friendly city, with thoughtful urban planning, accessible infrastructure, and community support systems. It is equally important to make Singapore a youth-friendly city - one where the next generation feels empowered and supported to grow, connect, and belong.
The Youth-Friendly City Youth Panel provides youths with a platform to work in partnership with the Government to envision what a youth-friendly Singapore could look like and recommend ways to achieve this vision.
This initiative is jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the National Youth Council (NYC), in collaboration with the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) and the Centre for Strategic Futures (CSF), in support of the SG Youth Plan.
2. Programme Offering
The programme brings together around 50 youths from diverse backgrounds to examine what youths need to thrive and develop a shared vision for a Singapore where youths can live, work, and play.
This panel offers opportunities to:
- Reflect on what it means for youths to thrive, consider the trade-offs involved, and engage constructively with different perspectives.
- Develop a shared vision of a youth-friendly Singapore where young people can thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
- Explore how long-term trends, including demographic shifts, climate change, and the evolving nature of work and life, could shape Singapore's future.
- Engage with peers, experts, and policymakers to deliberate on how Singapore can respond to these trends and remain a city where every young person feels supported to thrive.
- Develop recommendations and new approaches for the Government to consider in making Singapore a more youth-friendly city.
- Present your visions and recommendations to Government leaders and wider audiences.
