Key Topics at SITCE 2024:

The theme for this year's event is Smarter Journeys for Sustainable Cities and the congress will feature the following sub-themes:

Sub-theme 1: Building a Future-Ready Workforce

A resilient and skilled workforce is critical to ensuring organisations are ready to embrace the evolving demands in the public transport sector. Beyond an emphasis on technical capabilities, organisations must prioritise equitable practices and the well-being of workers.

Sub-theme 2: Automation and Autonomous Vehicles

Increasingly, automation and autonomous vehicles (AVs) raise key considerations for the future of land transport. Successful and seamless implementation will require exploring the various aspects of AV technology integration, vehicle production, business models, and regulations.

Sub-theme 3: Electrification and Sustainable Mobility

Electrification is a pivotal step to achieving sustainable mobility, as earmarked by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Robust discussion in areas such as policy frameworks, vehicle technologies (including batteries) and infrastructure, is a necessity to achieving a smooth transition towards Net Zero cities.

Sub-theme 4: Smart, Inclusive Transport and Commuter Culture

Public transport systems must evolve to accommodate demographic, behavioural and societal changes around the world. Driven by innovation, digital transformation is embracing inclusivity and improving accessibility and safety for commuters.

Sub-theme 5: Sustainable Infrastructure and Asset Management

Transport networks and operations are required to perform increasingly well, alongside being environmentally and financially sustainable. To achieve this, they have become more intertwined with digitalisation and AI solutions. Adapting to climate change is another dimension of sustainability, which the sector is addressing at different levels, from policy frameworks to specific technical or organisational measures.
