OVERVIEW
Technology is playing an increasing role in re-shaping the teaching and learning experience. We are witnessing a major shift from the standardisation of education to the provision of a more customised solution in answer to the learning needs of the individual.

Award-winning entrepreneur Ramona Pierson, will be sharing her own inspiring journey from an accident that left her in a coma for 18 months, and blind for 11 years, to her extraordinary contribution to the personalisation of education through the use of technology.

At age 22, Ramona Pierson was hit by a drunk driver while running and spent 18 months in a coma and 11 years blind. She relearned everything from breathing and seeing to walking and smiling. From this experience arose the drive to build companies where personalized learning and relearning are the center of all products.

Ramona’s career began as a neuroscientist at the Palo Alto Brain Center and VA hospitals, which led her to advocate for students with learning challenges in the public school system. In 2005, she created The Source, one of the first online social learning solutions for educators, students and parents. It was adopted throughout the Seattle Public School system and Ramona acted as district CIO for three years.

Ramona founded and is CEO for Declara, which is focused on mobile social learning solutions, Algorithms, and Machine Learning. Declara a social learning platform for human capital development, helps companies, governments and organizations predict, teach, assess, and respond to the growing demand for 21st Century Skills. Our analytics improve products and services by making them more responsive to individual learning and developmental needs and preferences.

This free lecture is presented by the HEAD Foundation, a Singapore-based think tank focused on education and leadership for development in Asia, in partnership with Singapore Committee for UN Women, a self-funded Singapore-based non-profit working towards gender equality in Singapore and the region.
