About the Artist
Poh Siew Wan (b.1948), An established professional artist, art lecturer and stamp designer, POH has exhibited internationally and in Singapore including a solo show in Flensburg, Germany. A prolific artist who works in different mediums, his works conceptualise on the theme of Equilibrium and universal harmony. He believes that art offers spiritual meaning, bridging the context of modernity with the part he can play in the universe. His works have developed from realism to abstraction to express his inner desire for balance and harmony and the ubiquitous presence of energy ‘Qi’. Transcending over borders they embody the elements of Eastern and Western philosophies in executions, styles and techniques, a consequence of fusions and influences of a cosmopolitan individual in this age of post-modernism. Universal ideas, Dao De Qing and eastern thoughts based on I Ching are directional compasses that underline his artistic creations. He seeks to bring the intangibles into something tangible visually in abstract forms which imbue his sought for spiritualism in art and in modern day life. His works are widely recognised and collected internationally and locally in museums, art institutions, corporations and private individuals. They include the Singapore National Art Museum, Flensburg Stadtishe Museum, Germany, Wanju Jeonbuk Art Museum, Korea, Andaman Art Museum, Thailand, Changzhou Art Museum, China, Ratchadamneon Contemporary Art Center, Thailand, NAFA, Swiss Bank, OCBC, DBS Banks, EDB, National Library Board, SIA, Ascendas, Ascot Holdings.
