OVERVIEW

As a small city state with no natural resources, densely-populated Singapore is facing the immense challenge of finding a balance between the pursuit of economic growth and environmental sustainability. Singapore’s energy and climate change policies are influenced mainly by economic considerations; hence the government takes pragmatic and cost-effective actions to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and adopts clean energy as long as these actions do not affect economic growth or add to costs significantly.

In this talk, Professor Chan will discuss pressing global issues and the impact of the megatrends of human-social development on them. He will also share facts, data and mitigation measures on climate change will be shared and addressed. Professor Chan will also highlight two flagship projects conducted at the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) which address energy efficiency and renewable energy integration.
