In 2013, Germany saw its strongest M&A performance by deal value since 2007; €72 billion worth of deals were closed. Its inbound M&A has also increased year-on-year since 2009. Though M&A activities are strongest for industrial and chemicals sectors, opportunities are present in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors as well. Many German SMEs face financial challenges or lack succession plans, presenting M&A opportunities for Singapore companies. These SMEs tend to be from niche sectors with the specialised technology, expertise and network that will add value to Singapore companies.
