OVERVIEW

Impact investing represents investments made into companies, organizations and funds with the goal of generating positive social and environmental impact while seeking a financial return. It also embodies a belief that philanthropic and government grants are no longer sufficient to solve our world’s most pressing problems. Join us for an evening of lecture and discussion on how impact investing seeks to harness the power of business and capital markets to create systemic change globally and in Asia, including the critical aspects of building a successful ecosystem, and the importance of collaboration between key stakeholders like foundations, family offices, corporations, government, academia, non-profits and intermediaries. We will also share case studies of impact investing in action in key areas like education, healthcare and the environment.

MEET THE SPEAKER
Mr. P. Ming Wong

Following a 20-year career in banking and finance in Asia and United States, Mr. Wong has been actively contributing to the impact investing and social entrepreneurship space in Hong Kong and Asia through his work as an independent advisor to family offices, foundations and governments. He co-founded two nonprofits to promote impact investing in Asia: Asia Community Ventures to focus on policy research and ecosystem building and Giinseng to connect social startup founders with working professionals interested in mentoring and impact investing. He is now seeking partners to collaborate on the challenging task of scaling his work at ACV and Giinseng.

On a personal level, Mr. Wong has invested in a number of social startups that are coming up with disruptive solutions to address sustainable food, education and environmental challenges. He holds an MBA and dual Bachelor degrees in Operations Research and Economics with Distinction, all from Cornell University. He is a frequent Op-Ed contributor to the South China Morning Post and blogs about his experience on impact investing at Investing Through a Social Lens.

This event is presented by The HEAD Foundation, a Singapore-based think tank devoted to research and policy influence in education and leadership, for development in Asia. Admission is free.
