Introduction
Singaporean-based companies are increasingly expanding their operations into Malaysia, attracted by relatively cheaper labour and land factors. The Land Productivity Grant is a programme that supports companies which choose to relocate some operations to Malaysia, which retaining core functions in Singapore. The establishment of subsidiaries in and around the region, including Malaysia, is often underpinned by an element of tax efficiency which has led to transfer pricing (i.e., the pricing of related party transactions) a key concept that finance, treasury and operations professionals have to pay attention to.
This seminar provides an overview of recent transfer pricing developments in Malaysia, as well as shares a practical approach for Malaysian taxpayers to manage their transfer pricing obligations in Malaysia.

Background on speaker
Sowmya is a Director at an international consultancy firm that specializes in Transfer Pricing and Tax Valuation. Having been trained in the U.S. with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sowmya now applies her transfer pricing training to transfer pricing issues in the Asia Pacific region.
She has extensive experience in the high technology/semiconductor as well as pharmaceutical/biomedical industries, and also has significant IP valuation skills in addition to transfer pricing. Sowmya has also represented her clients in transfer pricing audits and thus has had several interactions with tax authorities both in Singapore as well as in the region.
Sowmya is an economist with Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University and more than 10 years of transfer pricing consulting experience.
