The ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF) is a high-level grouping of capital market regulators from all 10 ASEAN jurisdictions, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Established in 2004 under the auspices of the ASEAN Finance Ministers, the primary responsibility of the ACMF is to develop a deep, liquid and integrated regional capital market. As part of its efforts to drive sustainable development through the capital markets, the ACMF has developed a Roadmap for ASEAN Sustainable Capital Markets, which includes promoting corporate sustainability disclosures as a priority recommendation.

The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) was formed by the Trustees of the IFRS Foundation on 3 November 2021 at COP26 in Glasgow. The ISSB’s mission is to develop, in the public interest, international standards that will result in a high-quality, comprehensive global baseline of sustainability-related financial disclosures, so that companies deliver meaningful, consistent and comparable information focused on the decision-making needs of the investors and the financial markets.

The ACMF has been collaborating with the ISSB to raise awareness of and build capacity on the forthcoming ISSB standards amongst the ASEAN regulatory, corporate, and investor community. As part of this collaboration, the ACMF and ISSB are jointly organising a Conference and Technical Training on IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards on 27-28 June 2023 in Singapore, timed with the expected launch of the ISSB’s final first two standards, IFRS S1 on General Requirements and IFRS S2 on Climate-related Disclosures (“ISSB Standards”) end June 2023.

The event will comprise:

  • Plenary sessions focused on discussing key aspects of the ISSB Standards, as well as related developments, such as in sustainability assurance. There will be panel discussions with ASEAN regulators, investors, corporate preparers, and other sustainability stakeholders to share their perspectives on sustainability disclosures and the ISSB Standards.
  • Technical training sessions dedicated to regulators and corporate preparers, for a deeper dive into the technical aspects of the ISSB standards and the practical implications for regulators and corporate preparers respectively.
