Synopsis:
Successful businesses understand how to leverage value creation. By creating sustainable stakeholder value and company value, they keep the business top-of-mind and maintain a competitive advantage to stand out in the marketplace.

Sustainable Sustainability, a global research study conducted by Stewardship Asia Centre (SAC) in 2023, confirms that businesses can achieve profitability and growth by addressing today’s challenges. This potential can be unlocked by replacing outdated leadership and governance models with Steward Leadership.

Currently, as much as 60% of board directors' time is spent on regulatory compliance, financial management, and risk management, leaving inadequate time spent on sustainability, culture, leadership, talent, and innovation. These areas are crucial for solving today’s environmental and societal concerns. Driving sustainable businesses is a leadership challenge. Can directors play a role in instilling a culture of steward leadership and accountability within the organisation?

Boards as Stewards of Sustainability — another research study by SAC published in May 2024, has shown through qualitative and quantitative board data collated across 11 countries that exemplar boards can ensure profit is pursued with a broader purpose which aims to maximise the positive social and environmental impact of business.

At the core of the board mandate lies the duty of good fiduciaries, where the board is entrusted with safeguarding the interests of stakeholders and ensuring the long-term prosperity of the company. By creating long-term value for its stakeholders, boards can ensure the company’s continuing success in a rapidly changing world.

Learning Objectives:
Join us for a 3-hour interactive session where directors will be able to:

  • Recognise the limitations of existing governance approaches and the need for enlightened governance
  • Understand how to drive profitable growth by converting sustainable practices into a competitive advantage
  • Gain an overview of Steward Leadership as a framework to drive business longevity
  • Develop an action plan to chart your board’s journey to become a true steward of sustainable businesses
