Little Red Dot Write Away: Story-writing competition​
$250 cash for Best Story of the Week!


Phrase for Week 4:"... watched with immense pride as the flag unfurled in the breeze..." 

Up till Aug 23, budding writers can participate in Little Red Dot’s story-writing competition, Write Away.
Writers are free to write about any topic, and in any style. The only catch is – the essay must incorporate each week’s special phrase.

Week 1’s phrase is: “...as the merciless rain beat down in torrents on...”

Week 2's phrase is "...she grimaced and then gagged when she saw the ..."

Week 3's phrase is:"...screamed as the door opened with an ominous creak..."

Week 4's phrase is: "...watched with immense pride as the flag unfurled in the breeze..."


Use the phrase anywhere in your story, which should be 500 words or fewer.
Don’t forget to give your story a title!

The best story of each week will receive $250 in cash.

Week 1: July 28 - Aug 4
Week 2: Aug 4 - Aug 11
Week 3: Aug 11 - Aug 18
Week 4: Aug 18 - Aug 23
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. You must be a primary school pupil whose school subscribes to Little Red Dot to participate.
2. All entries for Week 4's topic should be submitted by Aug 23, 2020 with your name, school and parent’s e-mail address.
3. Each entry should be submitted to str.sg/dotwriteaway
4. Each entry should be typed in a word document and sent in as an attachment. Please use Arial font size 14. The story should also be double-spaced. Please include your full name, school, and class at the top right-hand corner of your document. Save your document in this format: Your Name-WA4 (for example, if your name is David Tan and you are submitting an entry for Week 4 in this Write Away competition, you should save your document as David Tan - WA4)
5. All entries should adhere to the word limit of 500 words and should be written solely by the student subscriber. You should not ask an adult to write the story for you. Entries found to have been plagiarised or written by someone else will be disqualified.
6. The phrase of the week should be underlined and in bold font for the judges to locate it easily in your story. Entries without the phrase of the week may be disqualified from the competition.
7. The judges’ decision is final and no negotiations or correspondence with entrants will be entered into.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Winners agree to grant and assign Singapore Press Holdings the copyright and intellectual property rights to publish the work as it sees fit.
2. The organiser will get in touch with winners’ parents or guardians to administer the logistics. Some personal data may be collected in connection with administering or managing these logistics.
