10th Wong Hock Boon Paediatric Masterclass Webinar Series 2021
Held annually since 2011, this event focuses on general and sub-specialty paediatrics, continuing in the long tradition of excellent teaching from the department and honoring the legacy of our founding professor, Emeritus Professor Wong Hock Boon. The event has become a key platform for local and regional healthcare professionals to connect and share updates in the field of paediatrics.
In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Wong Hock Boon Paediatric Masterclass has lined up four exciting webinar sessions this year, focusing on a range of current and pertinent paediatric topics. This will be held every Saturday, 7 – 28 August 2021 from 2pm – 5pm (GMT+8).
Registration closes on 1 August 2021. Registration is non-refundable. However, participants can seek a replacement. Replacements can be done before 1 August 2021 via email ktpnucmi_nuhkids@nuhs.edu.sg

Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep, Allergy and Immunology
This session will include talks on sleep and use of cough medications in children. Learn to recognise, manage and evaluate common sleep issues in children and the efficacy of cough medications. The second half will focus on the prevention of food allergy and eczema in children and cytokine storm syndromes; both hot-key topics in the recent years in medicine.

Neurology, Adolescent Medicine
This session will feature talks covering pearls and pitfalls in performing neurodevelopmental assessments in children as well as an update on the diagnosis and management of cerebral palsy, set within the context of data from Singapore. The second half will discuss emerging medical issues in adolescents in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and mitigating strategies.

Infectious Diseases, Cardiology, Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics
The third session of the webinar will cover the field of infectious diseases in children with a look at the global state of childhood vaccination and the hidden pandemic of sexually transmitted diseases in adolescents. This will be followed by an approach to arrhythmias in paediatrics and an update on autism spectrum disorder including screening and diagnosis of this leading childhood developmental disability.

Genetics and Metabolism, Gastroenterology, Allergy and Immunology
This final session will start off with a presentation on probiotics; the evidence for it and whether their widespread use is warranted. Following this, a second talk will introduce the concept of pharmacogenomic testing, which can pave the way for individualised drug treatments, and discuss the validity of these tests. The second half will discuss emerging topics of importance in paediatric gastroenterology including fatty liver disease in children and feeding difficulties in children with autism spectrum disorder.
