The 16th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering

icbme 2016 event singapore

After powering the Singapore FinTech Festival last month, we are now proud to announce that Gevme is driving the 16th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering (ICBME) held in Singapore. This conference is jointly organised by the Department of Bioengineering, National University of Singapore and the Biomedical Engineering Society (Singapore). In the past, ICBME series of conferences were successful in attracting about 700 participants from over 30 countries. The 16th edition of ICBME is held from 7th to 10th of December 2016 at the National University of Singapore.

ICBME DAY 1- 7th of December

The event kicked off with 2 plenary lectures (1 and 2) by Bernat Soria from Andalusian Center for Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CABIMER), Seville, Spain and Yonggang Huang from Northwestern University, Illinois, USA and some concurrent sessions as well. In plenary lecture 1, Soria talked about the cell therapy of diabetes mellitus and its complications. In plenary lecture 2, Huang called for a discussion around the topic of bio-integrated and bio-inspired stretchable electronics. At the end of day 1, a welcome reception was organised to finish off the day in beauty.

ICBME DAY 2- 8th of December

Day 2 saw another 2 plenary lectures (3 and 4) taking place in Auditorium 2. Professor Rui L. Reis from the University of Minho in Portugal talked about the recent advances on nature inspired tissue engineering approaches for the regeneration of different tissues. Plenary lecture 4 was presented by Professor Luke Pyung-Se Lee who joined NUS in 2016 as Director of the Biomedical Institute of Global Healthcare Research and Technology (BIGHEART) and appointed as Associate President (International Research and Innovation) in the Office of Deputy President (Research and Technology). His aim was to show how to deal with the world’s healthcare crisis and the fundamental problems of current medicine in a grain of iSAND (integrative Science, Arts, Nanomedicine, and Digital technology), and find solutions in nature for preventive medicine and healthy environment.

ICBME DAY 3- 9th of December

Plenary 5 and 6 is taking place on day 3 of the event. Professor David Weitz at the Harvard University will be discussing the topic around “Droplets micro fluids for single cell studies” and Professor John Pauly at the Stanford University will tackle the issue of making the MRI safe for patients who have implanted devices. Judging continues for the ICBME Young Investigator Award 2016 and BES-SEC Design Award 2016 and the winner and runner-up will be announced tomorrow during the Awards Presentation. Towards the end of day 3, a Gala Dinner will be held at the Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay using Gevme’s ticketing system.

ICBME DAY 4- 10th of December

Tomorrow will be the last day of the 16th ICBME series and plenary lecture 7 will be given by Lawrence Ho from National University Health System revolving around the topic of innovation in medical technology. Mr Ho says that the last century saw the world being transformed through massive discovery and sharing of new knowledge. So according to him, this century is likely to see how the new knowledge can be effectively utilised to create new values and sustain the transformative process. In this lecture, Mr Ho will share his personal journey and talk about 3
developing technologies all the way from need (issue) to impact. There will be a closing ceremony and Awards Presentation to finish off the 16th ICBME series.

Carrying through our motto of wowing our attendees, the Gevme team provided:

  1. 4 counters, direct printing from laptop
  2. Certificate of attendance- all delegates can get one printing of the certificate free of charge. We are just changing the template from small size to A4 size.

So how does GEVME ensure the success of these events at a 4-days conference?

Onsite registration and Check-in

When it comes to the event onsite process, knowing your venue is key. Once the Gevme team knew which location was selected for the conference, we executed a plan to fully utilize the space given to ensure a seamless onsite check-in experience for all the 624 registered attendees. As Gevme also believes in going paperless, attendees were given QR codes to check-in at the event. These QR codes act as trackers for event organizers and exhibitors to know where each attendee has been. We are also giving personalised name badges to serve as icebreakers at the events, thus creating a comfortable networking atmosphere for the attendees.

Handling onsite registrations, check-ins, and badge printing in the past can be quite the hassle for event organizers without proper event technology, having to pre-print badges beforehand to shorten queue times and having to sift through massive piles of badges during the event to find the right ones when attendees checked-in. However, with everything in the Gevme cloud, all an attendee has to do at a self-help kiosk is to:

  1. Scan the QR code to check-in
  2. Wait for the badge to be printed
  3. Collect the name badge
  4. Enjoy

The Gevme Onsite application is able to pull the information from the cloud almost instantly, shortening queue times tremendously and releasing manpower to focus on other aspects of the event experience. As the application is able to pull information from the central database, the event planners were able to personalize messages for different types of attendees ahead of time. Personalization creates a sense of belonging within attendees – and this is key to any true event experience.

At Gevme, we strive to evolve in event technology to support and provide new ways for event planners to wow their attendees. We provide the suite of tools for you as an event organizer or event marketer to own your event and drive the attendance you want. Our team feel a great sense of achievement knowing that Gevme has supported some of the major events across ASIA (Singapore, Myanmar and China) throughout the year. However, we do know that it’s a long and tough road down there and we still have a lot to accomplish.

2017 will be a very exciting year for us as we will undergo some few changes. Make sure you guys stay always connected to know what the Gevme family is up to!
