“Disruption” would easily qualify as the term that rocks the business world in recent times. It has evolved, spun new buzzwords and encompassed waves of changes in technology and business. Its pace and scale have heralded both threats and opportunities, fears and hopes – as disruptive technologies and business innovations break down walls to enable more participation in economic and social activities, while also dividing, displacing and disenfranchising businesses and communities. Sometimes termed as the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the digital transformation has profound, wide-reaching implications on industries, and on how businesses are done. There is no doubt that the mantra “disrupt or be disrupted” rings loud with a sense of relevance and urgency – whether businesses could leverage or have to guard against the effects of disruption, they all need to be aware of the prevailing trends and to ensure that their enterprise endure. Against this backdrop, investors and business leaders ponder hard on how to focus on their purpose, hold true to their values, as well as sustain the relationship with their stakeholders and the community in which they are a part of. In short, they have to re-think how to be good stewards of what they have been entrusted with, and continue to be enduring forces for good amid the challenges, dilemmas and opportunities in a disruptive world.

Disruptive breakthroughs are potent vehicles that challenge conventional wisdom, norms, rules and routines. They often shake up the business ecosystem to offer new possibilities and solutions, resulting in the re-imagination of our relationship with the transformative landscape. For this session, roundtable participants comprising distinguished leaders from successful established organisations will share how they have harnessed disruption to inject new lease of life into their organisations, thus imbuing new perspectives while keeping true to the enduring values and traditions during reforms.

The proliferation of disruptive innovations saw the emergence of new industries that have not existed before. These cutting-edge developments allowed budding entrepreneurs and new generation of leaders to spot latent opportunities and enter new playing fields with low cost barrier. Pushing new frontiers, these young leaders are essentially stewarding unchartered territories which requires agility to resolve unanticipated challenges to bring these new endeavours forward. For this session, roundtable participants comprising young entrepreneurs and leaders will share why and how they are charting new paths as stewards of new future to create positive impact for their stakeholders and communities.

Inspiring Stewardship: “Stewarding the Future”
Sustainable organisations focus on value creation that spans across time, even across generations. For this to happen, it is imperative for organisations to forge a coherent long-term vision that connects their past, present and future pulses. Stewarding forward requires leaders who are able to imagine the possible future scenarios, and create the necessary conditions, environment and undergirding values that could propel the organisation ahead, amidst uncertainties. With a forward-looking stance for this session, roundtable participants will share the stewardship challenges they are encountering as they prepare for and lead their organisations on the inevitable path of transition and renewals in a disruptive age.
