In today’s rapidly changing world, advancement in Science and Technology is quickly making what we learnt in school insufficient to cope with the demands of the economy.
Since the Industrial Revolution it was determined that individuals must be equipped with the 3Rs - Reading, wRiting, and aRithmetic. Only a few decades ago, in addition to acquiring the 3Rs, we started acquiring a modicum of computer skills to catch the Third Wave of civilisation - the ‘Knowledge Economy’.
With the rising impact of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, we realise that beyond the mastery of the 3Rs and basic computer skills, continuous life-long learning in many diverse areas is vital.
How can we keep up with the ever-increasing pace of growth of knowledge and development in technology?
Dr Ng, a life-long learner, believes the answer lies in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). He has completed more than 130 MOOC with certifications, ranging from STEM subjects to liberal arts and sciences.
Dr Ng a haematologist by profession wears many hats – a mediator, an educationalist, and a writer. He regularly contributes Op-Ed pieces to the South China Morning Post and the China Daily HK.
